The Rolex Caliber 3235. The Rolex Caliber 3235 was officially released at Baselworld 2015 and was first introduced inside the 39mm Pearlmaster. Since then, the movement is actively used in all of Rolex’s date variant watches, seeing that it is Rolex’s go-to movement. In Rolex’s Own Words: The Sea-Dweller is equipped with calibre 3235, a new-generation movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. This self-winding mechanical movement is at the forefront of the art of watchmaking. Rolex mechanical movements are absolute works of art, and the latest Submariner 41MM Reference 124060 (pictured above) features the Caliber 3230 automatic mechanical movement (Pictured below) as well as the 3235 movement for the Submariner DATE model.

Thanks to a movable finger in Rolex’s new automatic Caliber 3235, which powers the Oyster Perpetual Datejust 41 we’re reviewing here, the date can be reset manually, quickly, and whenever desired. Simply pull the crown out to its middle position, turn it counterclockwise, and the date advances smoothly and accurately. The movement can be manually wound with the crown in position 1. Rotate the crown clockwise to wind the mainspring. The date wheel is advanced with the crown in second position (one notch out). Chronergy movements are found in the Datejust (cal. 3235) and Oyster Perpetual (cal. 3230), and also the entry-level sports watches, like last year’s Submariner ref. 124060 (cal. 3230). Chronergy is made up of 14 patents covering every aspect of a movement from power source to regulator, but a fundamental element is its escapement.
